Portable Transit Time Flow Meter (Portaflow SE)
Manufacturer: Greyline

  • Strap-on Ultrasonic Sensors

  • Internal Battery and/or AC Powered

  • Easy Calibration and Set-up

  • 50,000 point Data Logger
  • RS232 Serial Output

  • 4-20mA Output
  • Portable Transit Time Flow Meter

Recommended for clean fluids like water, glycol, oil and most chemicals. Portaflow ultrasonic sensors strap-on the outside of vertical or horizontal pipes from 2" to 40" (50 to 1000 mm) diameter. The ultrasonic signal travels through all common metal and plastic pipe materials. Sensors can be mounted without shutting down flow and there is no obstruction or pressure drop. Flow rate and totalizer are displayed continuously along with battery status, signal strength. Press one key to instantly change the units of flow measurement (e.g. from gallons to liters). Real time flow can be displayed in large numeric values or as a graph.

Calibration is easy with the onscreen menu system. Enter the pipe diameter, wall thickness and pipe material, and the Portaflow calculates the optimum mounting method and separation distance for the sensors. Calibration parameters can be stored for up to twenty different sites so that operators can recall calibration setups from the Portaflow memory.

    Standard features include:

    • sensors - clamp-on, 1 MHz ultrasonic for pipes from 2" to 40" ID (50 mm to 1000 mm)
    • sensor cable - 6 ft (3 m) with quick couplings
    • sensor mounting kit - includes stainless steel guide rail, mounting chains, and coupling compound
    • enclosure - portable, ABS electronics enclosure with lockable carrying case
    • displays - backlit LCD matrix. Displays flow in m3, liters or gallons (per minute or hour) and flow velocity in ft/sec or m/sec. Displays positive and negative flow values and totals in numeric or graph formats
    • totalizer - 12 digits, displays separate forward and reverse flow totals
    • calibration - built-in 16-key calibration system. Stores calibration parameters for up to 20 sites
    • power input - built-in rechargeable NiMH battery with external charger rated 100-240VAC 50/60Hz
    • outputs - 4-20mA (750 ohm), RS232C with programmable baud rates
    • data logger - 50,000 data point capacity
    • 1 manual

PORTABLE TRANSIT TIME FLOW METER SPECIFICATIONS

SCOPE: This specification covers a portable, ultrasonic Transit Time flow meter by Greyline Instruments, Massena, New York / Long Sault, Ontario. This instrument shall provide for non-intrusive flow measurement, indication, totalizing and transmitting of the flow rate in a full pipe.

    GENERAL:

Each portable Transit Time flow meter shall have the following design features and engineering specifications:

    A. PERFOMANCE SPECIFICATIONS

    1. Have an accuracy of ±2% of reading in most clean fluid applications. Have repeatability of ±0.5%.
    2. Operate on clean liquids in full pipes with less than 2% solids or gas bubbles.
    3. Operate on the following pipe materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, PVDF, fiberglass, galvanized steel, mild steel, glass, copper, brass and pipes with bonded liners including epoxy, rubber and Teflon.
    4. Operate on AC/DC power. Include an internal NiMH rechargeable battery with minimum capacity for 6-10 hours continuous battery operation. Recharge and operate with power input of 100-260VAC 50-60Hz.

    B. TRANDUCERS

    1. Have a dual transmitting/receiving, clamp-on transducers.
    2. The transducers shall be waterproof and operate continuously at temperatures from -4°F to 257°F (-20°C to 125°C).
    3. The transducer shall be designed to install on pipes with inside diameter ranging from 2" to 40" (50 mm to 1000 mm).
    4. Have a 6 ft (2 m) long cable from the transducers to the electronics.
    5. Shall include manufacturer's recommended sensor coupling compound.
    6. Shall include stainless steel mounting rack with spring-loaded clamps.

    C. ELECTRONICS

    1. Have a portable, hand-held ABS enclosure plus a padded carrying case containing the flowmeter, sensors and accessories. Total shipping weight shall not exceed 18 lbs (8 kg).
    2. Electronics shall be designed for continuous operation at temperatures from 32° to 122°F (0° to 50° C).
    3. Have a built-in 16-key programmer with user-friendly calibration menu.
    4. Have a backlit graphics display indicating positive and negative flow rates and flow totals, flow graphs, calibration menu, signal strength, battery charge status, date and time.
    5. Have flow proportional 0/4-20mA output rated to maximum resistive load of 750 ohms.
    6. Have a built-in 50,000 point data logger, RS232C serial output and connecting cables. Data logger shall support time and date-stamped logging in user-selectable time periods.
    7. Have automatic signal strength monitoring and indication.
    8. Have a battery status indicator with automatic low battery shut off and battery overcharge protection.

    D. MANUFACTURER

The instrument shall be a Portaflow SE Portable Transit Time Flow Meter by Greyline Instruments Inc., and warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for one year.
