The Area Velocity Flow Measurement method is the most common method of all flow measurements. The AVFM 6.1 Area Velocity Flow Meter uses a submersible ultrasonic sensor measuring both the level and velocity of flowing liquid to calculate flow measurement in an open channel or pipe. The sensors are mounted either inside a pipe or at the bottom of a channel, and the sensor is built to resist fouling, corrosion, and abrasion. The AVFM 6.1 Area Velocity Flow Meter can be configured with the standard submerged velocity-level sensor or with submerged velocity in combination with a separate non-contacting ultrasonic level sensor, which is suitable for highly aerated fluids or those with a high concentration of suspended solids.

The AVFM 6.1 can measure forward flow velocity up to 6 m/s (19.7 ft/s) and reverse flow up to 1.5 m/s (5 ft/s). The electronics and software sample and average flow rates continuously provide stable readings. The submerged velocity/level sensor will measure flow in partially full and surcharged pipes with pressure up to 10 psi. The minimum recommended pipe diameter for the AVFM 6.1 Area-Velocity Flow Meter is 150 mm (5.9 in).

Configuration is simple for the AVFM 6.1 Area Velocity Flow Meter. Just enter the pipe diameter or channel dimensions and the AVFM 6.1 automatically computes and displays flow volume. Configure the AVFM 6.1 for installation in irregular or compound channel shapes by entering the channel width and multiple level points through the simple menu system. Channels for virtually any shape can be monitored with your choice of measurement units.

The Flow Meter will store time and date-stamped flow values at 10-second to 6-minute intervals. Daily flow reports are automatically created where total, minimum, maximum, and average flow rates are displayed on the LCD display. Transfer log files and daily flow reports to any USB flash drive by connecting to the logger’s USB output.

The AVFM 6.1 Area Velocity Flow Meter is suitable for open channel measurement applications such as influent flow monitoring, effluent flow monitoring, wastewater, stormwater, industrial wastewater applications, and irrigation water flow measurement. Its easy-to-use, menu-driven setup means that the AVFM 6.1 Area-Velocity Flow Meter is just minutes away from giving you that all-important flow measurement result.

• No flume or weir required – submersible ultrasonic sensor measures velocity and level simultaneously to calculate flow. No moving parts to wear, foul, or clog
• Built-in 5-button keypad, intuitive menu, and large backlit LCD display make the AVFM 6.1 the most operator-friendly area velocity flow meter on the market
• Fast, simple, installation and setup
• Improved performance in a wider range of operating conditions
• At a glance, view flow rate, velocity, level, totalizer, relay status, and important diagnostic information on the LCD display
• Three isolated 4-20mA outputs for flow rate, velocity, and level, and two relay outputs for pulse output or alarm
• 6.5 million point data logger for greater flexibility of data monitoring, control, and reporting
• Min, Max, and Total Flow data from the last 365 days is available on the LCD display, or download directly to a USB for easy reporting
• Monitors flow rate, volume total, run hours, and diagnostic information through only two wires with the optional Modbus RTU serial communication output
